JOGESHWARI CENTRE
The Jogeshwari centre is located in a Muslim-dominated locality. It was a great achievement in motivating women to move out of the four walls of their houses to attend programmes for self-development and self-sufficiency.
Regular activities: The main activities carried out here are the balwadi programme, health awareness programmes, community development programmes, organising mahila mandals and tuition classes.
Sports: In January, sports were conducted for the children and women of the community. Prizes were given to the winners.
Family Life Education: A two-day training programme on family life education was conducted on the 30th and 31st January. Twenty-two girls participated.
Health awareness: Health awareness programmes regarding various health issues are conducted monthly.
Nutrition Day: On the 10th September, Nutrition Day was celebrated. On this occasion, a cooking competition was organized for women to assess how nutritious food could be prepared at low cost
Quality of Life education: A two-day training programme on the quality of life was organized. Twenty couples took part.
Legal aid awareness: On the 15th October, a poster exhibition-cum-talk was conducted on legal aid and women's rights.
AIDS awareness: On the 8th December, the eve of World AIDS Day, an I awareness programme was conducted.
Fancy Dress: The children celebrated Children's Day with a fancy dress competition. They attended garbed colourfully.
Christmas: Children at the centre celebrated Christmas by taking part in cultural programmes. Snacks and gifts were given to all.
Tailoring class: The centre at Jogeshwari also runs a tailoring class for women. Sixteen girls attend. They are taught the basics of cutting and stitching.
