REAY ROAD CENTRE
The Reay Road Centre successfully implemented yet another year of programmes. Regular activities include the balwadi, nutrition and health programmes and non-formal education. Above all, the shelter acts as a night shelter for street boys.
Sports: In January, the balwadi children and others in the community, including the women, participated in various sports events. Prizes were given to winners.
Immunisation Camp: Immunisation campS for children are held monthly. Various doses are given based on the ages and requirements of each child.
Healthy Baby, Healthy Mother Competition: On the 29th September, a Healthy Baby, Healthy Mother competition was organized. About sixty people participated. The best baby and mother were determined by their overall health condition.
Nutrition: On the 20th September, nutritional awareness was shown to the women through a film. A cooking competition too was organised, in which a low-cost nutritious diet was prepared.
Children's Day: On 14th November Children's Day was celebrated -- with a fancy dress competition in which forty children took part. They came decked out in colourful costumes depicting the garments of various states.
AIDS Awareness: On 11th December, an awareness programme on AIDS was organised for the community chiefly through a film. Sixty-five people attended.
Christmas Party: Children celebrated Christmas on 18th December. A cultural programme was the highlight of the Christmas party. They left bearing gifts.
Night Shelter: The Reay Road Centre also acts as a night shelter for street boys. Eighteen boys stay at the shelter. Nutrition is provided. A warden looks after them.
