TAKIYAWADI CENTRE, KURLA
The Takiyawadi area is inhabited pre-dominantly by daily wage labourers from South India. Our regular activities include the balwadi, nutrition and health programmes and adult education.
Immunisation Camp: Monthly immunisation camps are organised, and dosages given to children. Parents are regular in bringing their children on time.
Sports: Children of the centre and from the community participated in the various sports events conducted for them. Prizes were awarded to the winners.
Teachers' Day: On the 5th September, children celebrated Teachers' Day. They presented their teachers with roses. Some came dressed up like teachers and did a grand imitation of them.
literacy Day: On the 8th September, Literacy Day was celebrated by the women of the community. On this occasion a film, Anguta Chaap, was shown, followed by discussions.
Healthy Baby, Healthy Mother Competition: On the 22nd September, this competition was organised, and the overall health aspects of the child and the mother were examined.
Nutrition Week: On the 26th September, the eve of Nutrition Week, a cooking competition was conducted for the women, fifty of whom took part in preparing a low-cost nutritious diet.
Children's Day: On the eve of Children's Day, forty children participated in a fancy dress competition, decked out in colourful costumes. Prizes were awarded to winners.
AIDS Awareness: On the 17th December, a poster exhibition-cum-lecture was organised for the community. Thirty people attended.
Christmas Celebrations: Children of the centre celebrated Christmas by taking part in a cultural programme. A party was arranged and gifts given.
